Eickemeyer Veterinary Equipment has generously donated a stainless steel adjustable surgical table for use at the Gorilla Doctors headquarters in Musanze, Rwanda. The table was transported courtesy of Rwandair on their 737-700NG maiden flight from Germany and recently arrived in Rwanda.

“Although most of Gorilla Doctor’s clinical work is in the field, we do treat some wildlife if necessary [e.g. serval caught in a snare, golden monkey with a broken leg, etc.] and perform all gorilla necropsies at our headquarters” says Dr. Dawn Zimmerman, Gorilla Doctors Regional Veterinary Manager. “In addition, we perform domestic animal surgeries as part of our capacity-building program as well as conduct annual examinations on orphaned eastern gorillas.  Before the surgical table was donated, a wooden table covered in trash bags was used which is not ideal for biosecurity safety nor kind to the back during a 6 hour necropsy. The height adjustability of the table is very nice and cannot be overstated!”

A very big THANK YOU to Eickemeyer and Rwandair for their support of gorilla health care!
