David Shaw Dr Mike Cranfield Gorilla Doctors visit

GUEST POST
By David E. Shaw, Black Point Group

In June 2018 I traveled to Virunga National Park in Rwanda to fulfill a long-held goal to see mountain gorillas in the wild.  It was a wonderful experience, made even more extraordinary by time I was able to spend with Dr. Michael Cranfield of Gorilla Doctors. Our mutual interests in veterinary medicine and genetics provided special insight into the circumstances of these amazing creatures and I am grateful to Dr. Cranfield for the knowledge that he shared and for the important medical services that he and his colleagues provide. It was rewarding to hear that products and services from organizations I’ve founded, including Vets First Choice and IDEXX Laboratories, benefit this work. As a trustee of the US National Park Foundation, it was also gratifying to appreciate the critical role of park stewardship in the conservation of mountain gorillas.

In support of the vital work of Gorilla Doctors I am pleased to share this short film of my recent visit the Virunga National Park:
