Raemonde Bezenar, Executive Director of the Canadian Friends of the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project, will be competing in the International Peace Marathon in Kigali, Rwanda on May 19, 2013. Bezenar will run the 42 km race in a full gorilla suit to raise funds for the Gorilla Doctors.

“In running the marathon in a gorilla suit, I hope to raise awareness for gorilla conservation and inspire the local people, who play a key role in their survival. I want to let them know that people from around the globe are here to help” says Bezenar.

Canadian Friends of MGVP is an Alberta charitable organization dedicated to supporting the life-saving work of the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project (MGVP, Inc.). Formed in 2008, CFMGVP has raised thousands of dollars for Gorilla Doctors over the last five years.

Bezenar is also the race director for her local “Edmonton Gorilla Run”, a 5K run scheduled for September 7, 2013. Everyone who registers runs in a gorilla suit. Entering its 4th year, the event is expected to expand to be a “picnic in the park” with music, entertainment and great food. For more information on the Edmonton run, click here.
